I’m sorry but I’ve got to say this: ninety eight!?!?!?!? That’s amazing, I never imagined I’d get this far. I’d like to add apps and stuff to my page to make it a bit friendlier. Maybe a “prayer of the day” app? Anyway…
“Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would not permit his house to be broken into.” (Luke 12:39)
We were burgled once. It’s a shocking and frightening thing to return to your house to find someone has been in there. The intruder smashed his way in through the kitchen window. A window with “secure” locks! [We have since had a new window with additional locks fitted as well as a burglar alarm!]
But the point of Jesus’ parable is not him security. He’s talking about being ready for the End of Days. That’s the time when everyone’s ledgers will be read and everyone will be held to account. Some will have credit, some will not.
This is something which non-believers have a real problem with. Early Christians thought that the Day of Reckoning would be not too far away. And as the centuries passed, the time scale has had to be rewritten.
But I think that people who are obsessed with “when” are missing the point. It’s not about when, it’s about “what”.
What are you doing to build up your credit?
What will you be doing when God comes for a visit?
What will you do when your time is up and your number is called?
It’s not too late to start. It’s never too late. And that’s the point, in my opinion. Stop wondering when Judgement will arrive and start getting ready for it!
