Day 272

“Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭58‬:‭10‬ NLT)

Shining in the darkness. And not just metaphorically.

Day 271

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭18‬ NLT)

Note ALL believers not just those who believe in Jesus.

Day 270

Carefully determine what pleases the Lord. Take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness; instead, expose them. It is shameful even to talk about the things that ungodly people do in secret. But their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them, (‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭10-13‬ NLT)

Day 268

“A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense.” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭24‬:‭3‬ NLT)

So what is fair? A house that has no wisdom is weak. What does that even mean? Where are the tidy answers? Am I asking the wrong question?

What is the right question?

I wondered why some people have more than their fair share of battles. Maybe that is how they grow stronger? Does good sense come from a battle? Maybe avoiding a battle?

Lots of questions and no proper answers.

Day 267

“I am the LORD; there is no other God. I have equipped you for battle, though you don’t even know me,

I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the one who does these things.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭45‬:‭5, 7‬ NLT)

So yesterday I wondered why some people suffer. And today I specifically searched for an answer that question.

But it’s never as simple as that, is it? The question of why became “who can help?” Which isn’t really the same thing at all.

Isaiah says that God has equipped us for battle. All of us are fighting a battle of sorts. Not only that, but he says it is him who has sent the good times and the bad times.

Do you feel that you have an equal balance? There should be. That would be the fair thing, wouldn’t it?

So today I am left with the question: what is fair?

Day 266

“Who has anguish? Who has sorrow? Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining? Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭29‬ NLT)

The writer of this proverb says the answer is people who are drunk.

Well, maybe. Or maybe it is someone who is going through a difficult time and is crying out for help. Where will the help come from?

I’ll be looking for an answer to THAT question tomorrow.
