Dear friends, I am not writing a new commandment for you; rather it is an old one you have had from the very beginning. This old commandment—to love one another—is the same message you heard before. (1 John 2:7 NLT)
Today is the first day in December. For the secular world it’s the first window of the advent calendar. A chocolate surprise! Yum!
But for the church, Advent began yesterday. And for the Church of England, the new year began yesterday too!
A time for reflection and contemplation. Not necessarily a time of waiting and not a “countdown to Christmas”! But a period, like Lent, when we look at what we have and what we need. And a time to realise that Jesus is already here, working through us every day.
I was thinking about how to tie together this year-long Bible study with Advent. And I decided to take the easy way out! I won’t try to tie them together.
These blogs will continue right until the end of December. That has always been the plan.
But for Advent I have chosen a new plan, which I’ll read but not blog about.
“Joy to the World”! The King is here.
WE are not waiting for his birth, it is HIM who is waiting for US!
