I saw before me what seemed to be a glass sea mixed with fire. And on it stood all the people who had been victorious over the beast and his statue and the number representing his name. They were all holding harps that God had given them. (Revelation 15:2 NLT)
You know when watching TV shows like “Casualty” than the opening scene will usually include some poor souls who are destined to meet a sticky end.
They are in a precarious situation and yet they don’t seem keen to mend their ways.
That’s how I feel about the souls in this verse. They are stood on a sea made of glass and fire. And what are they doing? Playing harps!
Do you remember that song by the rock group Europe?
It’s the Final Countdown!
We are almost there. It has been a long road, and a rocky one at times. The end is not quite in sight, be we know it is coming.
And John has seen a vision of the harvest. That should have capital letters. It is THE HARVEST.
The time when God will take everyone who is still left and gather them all up.
“Then another angel came from the Temple and shouted to the one sitting on the cloud, “Swing the sickle, for the time of harvest has come; the crop on earth is ripe.” So the one sitting on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the whole earth was harvested. (Revelation 14:15-16 NLT)”
Are you ready? Have you packed your bags? Have you cancelled the milk? Have you got your tickets and passport?
No? There might still be time, but you’d better hurry.
Anyone who is destined for prison will be taken to prison. Anyone destined to die by the sword will die by the sword. This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful. (Revelation 13:10 NLT)
Even if it means dying. Beacuse, as we have read so many times, death is not the end.
This has been an, erm… interesting year!
I will sum-up my final thoughts on the Bible in a few day’s time, but this post is here to thank those far and wide who have made this journey an interesting one!
On the right of this post is a list of the cool blogs I’m following. They’re all lovely people. Follow them!
Sharon (Always kind words, even when the site kept crashing)
Robert (Diligent reader! Not many comments from him, but I knew he was reading all my posts)
Emmerson Walgrove for his inspirational blogs http://theviewfrommanningham.blogspot.co.uk/
Amanda Boorman – thank you! Follow her blog to find out why adoptive parents look so frazzled. One of the loveliest people I’ve never met! http://allaboardthetraumatrain.com/
Gede Prama – kind words in the early days http://en.gravatar.com/gedepramacompassion
Bill Carson – also gave me some kind words http://wjcarson.wordpress.com/
The blog-sphere can be a lonely place, but this blog was never about getting hundreds of followers. In some ways, it was a paradox. I was being totally selfish by saying what I thought the Bible was about. What it meant to ME. The Bible is full of examples of people being rewarded for looking after other people.
So thank you, one and all, for your “Likes”, “Comments” and even if you’ve just read the occasional one. Thank you all!
I’ve been thinking of what should be the subject of my blog next year. Not a daily one this time. Time to move on. But I’d kind of got into this blogging lark, even if most of the time it feels like I’m writing to myself.
I’ve always been drawn to history. And the history of Manningham in Bradford in particular. Saint Paul’s Church, which is “my” home church is part of a series which the Victorian mill owners built in a period between about 1850 and 1900.
So I am thinking (it’s a work in progress!) of visiting as many as are still standing and writing a bit about each one. But with only ten days left, I’d better get this idea sorted!
It would be a monthly blog, which is far more achievable.
But back to Revelation.
“Then there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels. And the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of heaven. (Revelation 12:7-8 NLT)”
The dragon is Satan. Michael was perhaps another incarnation of George. As in Saint George and the dragon?
St Michael and All Angels was the name of one of the early churches in Manningham. Which is where we came in!
The nations were filled with wrath, but now the time of your wrath has come. It is time to judge the dead and reward your servants the prophets, as well as your holy people, and all who fear your name, from the least to the greatest. It is time to destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth.” (Revelation 11:18 NLT)
Having mourned the dead, nations are now filled with wrath. Almighty God, it is time to judge the dead and reward your servants, from the youngest child to the oldest woman. It is now time to destroy all who have caused destruction on the earth.
He swore an oath in the name of the one who lives forever and ever, who created the heavens and everything in them, the earth and everything in it, and the sea and everything in it. He said, “There will be no more delay. When the seventh angel blows his trumpet, God’s mysterious plan will be fulfilled. It will happen just as he announced it to his servants the prophets.” (Revelation 10:6-7 NLT)
So what is this mysterious plan?
Have you been paying attention?
It’s all here in Revelation. 144,000 will be guaranteed a place of comfort and luxury in Paradise.
For the rest of the survivors of the end of days, it will be a time of torment and death.
